height="160" border="0" />The 2-line AT&T Phone E2662B has some great features. I noticed that it is important to read the handbook prior to using the phone. This would avoid some of the problems encountered in earlier reviews.

1. Line 1 or line 2 can be selected from the base prior to picking up the handset. Also, phone numbers can be predialed prior to picking up the handset.

2. The sound quality of the answering machine is very good. Messages are not cut off. If they are, it is an isolated incident and the phone needs to be returned and replaced. Different messages can be recorded for lines 1 and 2. You can choose to have only one mailbox on or off or both. Calls can be prescreened. The intercom can be used to contact a family member in another part of the house.

3. Each cordless handset can be personalized i.e., Deck, Garage, Bathroom, etc. The base is automatically updated when the cordless handset is changed. It is great because phones can be placed in areas where you do not normally have phone jacks.

IMPORTANT NOTE! YOU MUST USE A DUAL JACK OR ADAPTER AND FEED PHONE LINES 1 & 2 SEPARATELY INTO THE BASE TO PREVENT HEARING CONVERSATIONS ON BOTH LINES.

Con: If a phone call is answered at the base then picked up from one of the cordless phones in the set, the phone call will be dconnected from the base when the call is disconnected from the cordless phone even while holding the handset of the base.

Click Here to see more reviews about: AT&T 2.4 GHz 2-Line Expandable Phone System E2662B w Corded Answering Machine and 2 Cordless Handsets

Product Description:
A two-line corded/cordless phone system from AT&T, the E2662 is an ideal model for today's busy household or small office. With an all-digital answering system and multi-user expandability eight cordless handsets (two included), the phone offers both flexibility and convenience. By utilizing the 2.4 GHz band and digital frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology, the E2662 offers clearer reception and less interference than traditional 900 MHz phones. ---------------The digital answering machine provides up to 25 minutes of recording time, while a remote message check feature lets you keep track of messages even when you are away from home. Caller ID/call waiting compatible, the E2662 has a 50-number caller ID memory, while a 50-number phone directory provides an easy way to keep track of important phone numbers. -----------------The base unit has a data port which can be used to hook up external devices such as a fax machine. A speakerphone on both the base and handsets combine with headset compatibility (also on both the base and handsets) to provide hands-free communication options. Handset and ringer volume controls are provided, while an illuminated keypad makes dialing easy, even in dark environments. An intercom function lets you talk between handset locations, while up to seven-way conferencing allows you to communicate with multiple parties at the same time. The E2662 also comes backed with a one-year warranty.

Buy Now

Review of Panasonic KX TG2336S - Corded phone w/ call waiting caller ID - 2.4 GHz - single-line operation - silver

I had done alot of reviewing these phone before I went with the panisonic alot of them are not clear and you can't understand a thing they say. Our primarily motivation was to move up to 5.8 GHz and avoid ever increasing number of wireless routers in our neighborhood competing for frequency in the 2.4GHz range.

GOOD -
*Much appreciated improvements include:
*Speaker phone in handsets
*5.8 GHz - reduces collisions with wireless routers
*Music on hold
*Flashing antenna on handset

BAD -
*Truly horrible omnidirectional microphone located beneath base station is STILL the only input method for attendant greetings. This is our greatest disappointment - callers are greeted with acoustically hideous greetings full of ambient noise so typical of cheap omni mikes - the kind used on camcorders.
*Solution - Flip base system over to speak clearly into omni microphone located beneath system - or put a blanket over your base station when recording your greeting - we found this the best way improve sonic quality - and ahem! Panasonic! - fix this!

CONCLUSIONS -
We are also extremely embarrassed by manufacturers choice of faux-snob British voice prompts - they are in bad taste and will likely cause us to replace this system.

Seems to me the reason for choosing a small business phone system is to improve customer experience - this will not do that.

Customers experience is compromised by
*Having to use non standard functions like adding "#" suffix to reach extension selections
*Poor voice quality of base system greeting recordings
*Ridiculously self-conscious faux-British system prompts

Click Here to see more reviews about: Panasonic KX-TG4500B 5.8 GHz Expandable 4-Line Multi-Handset Cordless System with Caller ID and Answering System

Product Description:
PANASONICPanasonic KXTG4500B 5.8GHz Dual Handset Cordless Phone w/Ans.Model: kxtg4500bThe best of both worlds. padding-right:5px; padding-bottom:5px;">BOTTOM LINE:You've probably already discovered the lack of full-featured consumer-level cordless phones out there, especially in the 5.8 GHz category and that you really have to move into the SOHO dual-line systems and spend a good deal more to get a full-featured phone. But the bottom line is if you are looking for a full featured, single line, consumer level cordless phone w/ an answering machine built in, this is it - it's not perfect, but you don't have many other options in this price range.
THE ALSO-RANS:Panasonic KX-TG2593 - feature-packed, but 2.4 GHz and bad quality reviews (just releasing 5.8 GHz line - probably will have same quality issues).Siemens 4215 - great form factor and feature-packed, but 2.4 GHz, no headphone jack, no base functionality and lukewarm quality reviews (pricier SL3501 and 8800 lines have headphone jack but are 2.4 GHz).CIDCO's 2.4 GHz D271's - almost perfect feature set but no answering machine and not in same price range (only marketed through yourlocal Bell company so you're not going to find a deal).
AT&T phones are not made by AT&T - they are designed and marketed by the VTech (maker of VTech phones like the 5831) subsidiary Advanced American Telephones under a licensing agreement with AT&T.My guess is AAT was a Ma Bell spin-off years back that VTech acquired so you are probably still getting some of the quality you associate w/ AT&T.Enough trivia...on to the phone:
PROS:
-Call quality/construction - can't overemphasize this (base sits right by my computer setup and still have great call quality)
-Full-duplex speakerphone:you can hear and be heard at same time (an uncommon feature on consumer speakerphones)
-LCD/Phone Book on base
-3 different mailboxes for different family members
CONS:
-No Speed dial:No one number/one touch speed dial from either base or handset - they really dropped the ball on this one. However, dialing from phone book takes as few as 3 button pushes.
-15 minutes answering machine record time seems pretty low (all of Siemens' lines have 30-45 minutes)
OTHER ISSUES:
-Message waiting indicator flashes neon blue on both base and handset - a little much for me but some may like it
-Inability to share phone books between handsets is a neutral:small business may want the same phonebook on all handsets; family may want parents/kids to have separate phonebook
-Wi-Fi:phone transmits at 5.8 GHz base to handset but 2.4 GHz the other way.If you have Wi-Fi this may be an issue as 802.11(b) transmits at 2.4 GHz.Possible future migration of Wi-Fi standard to 802.11(g) at 5.8 GHz is less of an issue because that frequency apparently is less congested than 2.4 GHz.
Note:I actually purchased the 5830 (but tested 5840 also). If you need the digital answering machine (b/c you don't have local phone company voicemail) go with the 5840 but you won't get the talking caller ID or a keypad on the base that you get with the 5830 (see my review on the 5830).
The top contenders in this category each have something (different) missing. In this price range, go with the AT&T 5840 (or the 5830) and be done with it before you drive yourself crazy as I did.

Click Here to see more reviews about: AT&T 5840 5.8 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Speakerphone with Digital Answering System

Product Description:
This innovative cordless telephone from AT&T operates on the powerful 5.8 GHz frequency. Its classic design provides comfort and ease of use along with advanced features, including a three-mailbox digital answering system, adjustable sound settings, the ability to run up to six handsets (one included, five optional) with only one jack, and speakerphones in both the handset and base.
The dual-band (5.8 GHz/2.4 GHz) design allows the base unit to transmit with more power in the 5.8 GHz frequency band and with greater efficiency at 2.4 GHz. The phone's true duplex transmission keeps the incoming and outgoing signals from interfering with each other.
The LCDs on both the base station and the handset provide caller ID/call waiting information (provided you have a subscription to caller ID service through your local phone company). The 5840's expandability with up to five additional handsets eliminates the need to hard-wire multiple extensions throughout the home. One phone jack and one power outlet are all you need to connect the 5840 base station and handset, while each additional AT&T 5800 handset requires only a power outlet for its compact charger/cradle. Calls can be transferred from one handset to another.
The 5840's enhanced audio technology derives from advances in acoustic design that have improved the frequency response relative to conventional cordless phones. The Sound-Select feature offers four different audio settings: bass, mid, treble, and natural.
The handset receiver lights up with incoming calls and can also be set to vibrate. It stores 50 names and numbers and works with your caller ID service to remember the last 50 callers. A spare-battery charging system enables the telephone to work even in a power outage. Choose from eight ringer melodies. Use AT&T replacement battery 2401.
What's in the Box
Base unit, handset, battery, AC power supply/charger, telephone line cord, instructions, warranty information
Note: The AT&T 5840 is no longer being manufactured. I charged it for 26 hours before using it and on my first call - during the first 1 1/2 minutes - the battery died. I followed the manual instructions carefully, but continued to experience the same problem. I bought a new battery on the 11th and still had the same problem. I emailed Panasonic on Dec. 13th and received an automated reply, but as of January 8, 2003, no real reply. It's now too late to return the phone, so I'm just going to junk it and buy a similar - non-Panasonic - product.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Panasonic KX-TG2584S 2.4 GHz Corded/Cordless Phone System

Product Description:
This Panasonic phone is like having two phones in one. I bought the DMX778 plus 2 of the satellite units. The caller ID has NEVER worked, and customer service NEVER helped. They were very adept at giving me the run-around though. The quality is so poor that whomever I am speaking with gets static. No matter how I adjust the sound, I can never hear very well either. This 2.4 GHz unit often says I have no service due to being out of range RIGHT NEAR THE BASE UNIT. The outgoing greeting on the answering system sounds fine, but all incoming messages are INAUDIBLE. I have had many Unidens and always loved them. I'll try to dig up my 900 MHz as it always worked better than this expensive system (still, these many years later). These are really pieces of poo-poo.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Uniden DMX778 2.4 GHz DSS Expandable Trendy Cordless Phone with Answering System and Caller ID (Silver/Black)

Product Description:
Amazon.com Product Description The Uniden DMX 778 cordless phones system features 2.4 GHz digital operation for clear, reliable calls, a built-in digital answering system, plus room for expansion (up to four handsets total, model DCX770). AT&T, if you could combine the features of some of your other two-line desk phones (like the model 972)with the sound quality and long DTMF signal of the buttons on this phone, you'd have a winner. One last note... the remote handset is excellent and would score very high except it cannot be turned off to save battery life or your nap...

Click Here to see more reviews about: AT&T 2462 2.4 GHz DSS 2-Line Cordless Phone with Answering System, Speakerphone, and Corded Base (Metallic Black)

Product Description:
Note: The AT&T 2462 is no longer being manufactured. The answering machine offers two individual mailboxes and 25 minutes of digital recording time. Headset compatibility frees your hands during conversations.
The LCDs on the base station and the handset provide caller ID with call waiting information (provided you have a subscription to caller ID services through your local phone company). The handset and base each store 50 names and numbers, and you can expand the system to include as many as eight handsets (AT&T model 2402).
Other features include a visual message-waiting indicator, an intercom, call transfer, and four-party call conferencing. The handset speakerphone is a very unusual feature that I find very handy. The phone is also nice in that you can purchase additional handsets for locations where there are no telephone jacks.
Sound quality is very good, and the range seems much better than my old Sony 900MHz phone.
Here's the downside:
1. The base is not wall mountable. That may not be a problem for most people, but it is for me.
2. Occasionally, pressing a button on the phone does not create the correct tone. For instance, when calling my answering machine, I'm supposed to press 7 to delete the message.Although I press 7 on the phone (and 7 shows in the display), it is not always recognized by my answering machine. This has happened on other voice mail/computer phone systems too.I don't know if this is a problem on my specific handset, or is common to Vtech.
3.The quality of sound from the handsfree speakerphone varies.I can be talking to a caller using the handset speakerphone, and the voice fades in and out... even when I'm right next to the base.
In sum, it's a great looking phone with all the right features at a good price. The minor problems I've described are probably limited to my unit.I'll try it for a while longer, and then exchange it for another of the same model if I continue to have some problems.

Click Here to see more reviews about: VTech 20-2481 2.4 GHz DSS 2-Line Expandable Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Caller ID (Silver and Black)

Product Description:
The ultimate two-line system for the home or office; this 2.4GHz Digital Spread Spectrum system features a digital answering system with a separate mailbox for each line, handset and base speakerphones, Call Waiting Caller ID, 50 name and number phone book directory in both base and handset, and headset compatibility. Expand your VT 20-2481 by adding up to 7 accessory handsets (model VT 20-2420) without the need of additional phone jacks. HANDSETS -- The handsets are "dense" - just heavy enough to feel solid and high quality - much better than the old, light, "plastic", cheap ones from the Gigaset 2420 system. The handset speakerphone is a feature I didn't think I would want or need, but it works great. The ability to give each handset your own "name" (like kitchen, or family room, or upstairs bathroom) makes the intercom capability much more useful than trying to remember where handset #3 is!!!
2. BASE STATION -- The speakerphone works fine - almost as good as a Polycom speakerphone. The "MUTE" function on the base station works great - I just wish that the handsets had a mute! The base station has attractive clear backlit buttons for some functions, like Speakerphone/Mute, Calls, Voice-Mail, Intercom, Flash, etc.But it does NOT have clear backlit buttons for the telephone number keypad used for dialing - a big flaw.
3. ON-LINE PRODUCT REGISTRATION -- May seem like a trivial thing, but I love the fact that Siemens lets you register your purchase on-line via the web site.I wish that the registration process directly solicted feedback -- They currently only ask for the essentials.
4. MULTI-LINE MADE EASY -- Unlike the Panasonic KX-TG4000B, you can easily join a call already in progress. So, if Gramma calls and one family member answers the call from one of the cordless handsets, anybody else can easily join the call by pressing "TALK" on one of the other handsets or the base station. On the Panasonic KX-TG4000B, the first person to answer must "invite" others to join using a complicated Conference feature.
Gigaset 8825 FLAWS:
1. HANDSETS -- Although significantly improved over previous generation (2420) handsets, the 8800 handsets still lack a "MUTE" button -- critical for conference calls.Siemens needs to add an explicit physical button to quickly select MUTE (when the baby starts crying), not just a "menu item".Also, the telephone number keypad used for dialing still has black plastic buttons with no back-lighting.This makes it impossible to dial in the dark.Siemens needs to make the telephone number dialing buttons clear and back-lit, on both the handsets and the base station. And, there is NO way to start a new call on Line #2 -- when you press "TALK" it always selects Line #1, without giving you a choice. The only way to get Line #2 is if one of the lines is already in use -- then it gives you a choice (e.g., Join line #1, or Use line #2).Finally, the handsets need explicit buttons for volume, just like the base station.Using the menu system on the handset to change the volume is tedious and time-consuming.
2. HANDSET CHARGING CRADLE -- The new handset charging cradles do NOT have a light indicating that the phone is charging. There should be a RED light indicating that the phone is charging and needs charging, and a GREEN light indicating that the phone is already fully charged.
3. BASE STATION -- As mentioned earlier, the telephone keypad needs clear and back-lit number buttons for dialing in the dark. The base station also needs a rechargeable battery back-up, in case of power outage.
4. DIRECTORY -- Although you can "transfer" directories of names and phone numbers from one handset to another, a centralized directory always shared across the entire system would be a huge improvement for home environments.
5. VOICE QUALITY -- Although voice quality is greatly improved, I would still pay a premium price for a cordless phone with higher quality voice. Why can't somebody make a cordless phone that sounds like a wired phone?I want CD quality voice on my cordless phone!
CONCLUSION -- The Siemens Gigaset 8825 is the best multi-line, multi-handset, cordless phone system I have ever owned. But, if Siemens makes additional improvements, I'll buy the next model to get needed enhancements.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Siemens 8825 Gigaset 2.4 GHz 2-Line Expandable Cordless Speakerphone with Answering System

Product Description:
Siemens raises the bar with the 8825 Gigaset, a 2.4 GHz two-line expandable cordless communication system. Expandable to eight handsets, the 8825 offers a wide range of features, including a digital answering machine with four mailboxes. The voice-announced Caller ID (with subscription to service through your local carrier) uses your voice to announce incoming calls. Caller ID information and a directory of your 120 speed-dial presets are displayed on an easy-to-read backlit LCD. Siemens includes an extra handset (model 8000 Gigaset) with charger.
The lightweight handset provides call transfer, conferencing, intercom, and room monitoring. It weighs just 7 ounces and has controls for volume, call waiting, flash, and last-number redial. Two AA rechargeable NiMH batteries (included) provide eight hours of talk time and eight hours of standby. The base and cordless handsets provide digital speakerphones and headset jacks for hands-free conversation. Additional handsets require no extra phone jacks.
A built-in answering machine completes the system. It has four mailboxes, date and time stamp, individual announcements for each incoming line, and 45 minutes of recording time. The unit also supports full remote operation, so you can collect messages while you're away.
What's in the Box
Base station with built-in tilt LCD, corded handset, coiled handset cord, cordless handset, cordless charger/base, AC power supplies and cords, two AA rechargeable NiMH batteries, one belt clip, telephone line cord, instructions, warranty information

Buy Now

Review of Panasonic KX-TG2593B 2.4 GHz DSS 2-Line Cordless Telephone with Caller ID and Digital Answering System (Black)

We have four Panasonic 900 mhz cordless two-line phones in the house, which all work very well. However, the one in my office picks up interference from my Intel wireless keyboard and mouse which operates @900 mhz.Another problem I wanted to resolve was that our Casio answerphone would lose messages when the power was off - its battery backup never worked.Solution? The Panasonic TG2593B.The 2.4 ghz signal gives hardwired quality audio. The handset lasts 50+ hours outside the cradle w/o recharging.
The programming features are incredibly flexible. For example, with four phones and two lines and receiving faxes at all hours, we have programmed the base on my office phone to be the only one that rings in the house.
The answer phone is very flexible, for example we've programmed it to only answer on one line and not the other which we use for faxes and outgoing calls.Messages are stored in flash memory and are not lost when power is disconnected.
While the phone worked right out of the box, you do have to read the manual to implement its many features.
After looking for the perfect two-line phone I've finally found it.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Panasonic KX-TG2593B 2.4 GHz DSS 2-Line Cordless Telephone with Caller ID and Digital Answering System (Black)

Product Description:
Panasonic's vision of the digital future is driven by the needs and aspirations of its business customers and millions of consumers around the world who use Panasonic products every day. It's just that I've been waiting a long time for something like this at a price I could afford.
The KX-TG2740S is the top of Panasonic's new line of expandable cordless phone systems (expandable means you can buy and add more handsets - in this case up to 7 in addition to the one which comes included).
It has two lines, built-in digital answering machine with multiple mailboxes, keypad + speakerphone on the base station, caller-id, plus a great feature I couldn't find on any similar system, nor on Panasonic's more expensive KX-TG2000 and KX-TG4000 systems: a speakerphone in the handsets! This is invaluable when you call a voice-mail system or information service (like Moviefone) which requires you to push keys in response to voice prompts - or when you get put on hold by some customer service rep for 20 minutes.
One of the additional handset models you can buy (the KX-TGA272S) has a built-in alarm clock and lies horizontally in its charger with a handy speakerphone button showing -- perfect for bedside or computer-side use.
Range and voice quality are excellent; this is my first 2.5ghz phone and I was concerned that it might interfere with my wireless Airport network (or vice-versa), but that has not turned out to be the case, even with four handsets scattered around the house.
Panasonic has always made good cordless phones - but with the KX-TG2740s it has really hit the bullseye IMO.
(For those who don't need two lines and/or a built-in answering machine, the other models in this line [KX-TG2700s, KX-TG2720s, & KX-TG2730s] are also good bets).

Click Here to see more reviews about: Panasonic KX-TG2740S 2.4 GHz DSS 2-Line Expandable Cordless Speakerphone with Answering System and Caller ID

Product Description:
The KX-TG2740S is a 2-line 2.4GHz MultiTalk expandable cordless phone system with digital answering system. The system accommodates three voice mailboxes. You can share the mailboxes with other members of your family or office, in your convenience. Callers from touch-tone phones can specify one of three mailboxes to leave a message there. The KX-TG2740S boasts 4-line backlit LCD on base, 4-line backlit LCD on handset and Dual Call Waiting Caller ID. 4-line backlit LCD on handset shows Call Status, Programming Options, Directory Items, and if you subscribe, up to 3 lines of Caller ID information, so there's no need for scrolling. Backlighting greatly aids visibility especially in low light areas.

Buy Now

Review of AT&T E2562 2.4 GHz DSS 2-Line Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering System and Corded Base

I spent 5 years wrestling the Siemens gigaset. This thing was so flaky and unreliable, that we eventually had to get another system. All the other expandable 2 line systems had some sort of major handicap, so we waited and waited.

Now, AT&T all of a sudden seems to get it right. I'm not saying that this thing is without its faults, it certainly is.But as far as the alternatives in this space, it seems to be the best one out there. As someone who avoided anything that even looked like it had some association to AT&T for the past 2 decades, I am surprised at how nice this thing is.

Sound quality is quite good, as is range. The handsets, a huge siemens weakness, are really nice. Easy software features, simple use, a decent speakerphone, easy dialing, and a usable intercom, plus they are simply nice looking and tactile feel is high end.

THe base is good also. The line selection thing is a tad awkward, but you just have to get used to it, then it will be fine. The speakerphone volume is poor, but it is not the end of the world. The commercial polycom and nortel speakerphones sound lousy also. The answering system is a huge improvement over the siemens, and the universal paging and intercom of the base to the handsets is really great.

All in all, very pleased.1 more thing, the handsets use AA batteries in a goofy battery carrier.I note this because there are consistent complaints of battery life issues on cordless phones. It appears that you can substitute a high MAh NiMH battery, in other words no $30 proprietary battery, which can save hundreds over a few years.

So far, so good.Hope it doesn't die in 11 months like all other consumer electronics seem to....

Click Here to see more reviews about: AT&T E2562 2.4 GHz DSS 2-Line Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering System and Corded Base

Product Description:
Amazon.com Product Description A two-line corded/cordless phone system from AT&T, the E2562 is an ideal model for today's busy household or small office. With an all-digital answering system and multi-user expandability eight cordless handsets (one included), the phone offers both flexibility and convenience. By utilizing the 2.4 GHz band and digital frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology, the E2562 offers clearer reception and less interference than traditional 900 MHz phones.
With just one phone jack, the system supports
up to eight extensions throughout your home.

The digital answering machine provides up to 25 minutes of recording time, while a remote message check feature lets you keep track of messages even when you are away from home. Caller ID/call waiting compatible, the E2562 has a 50-number caller ID memory, while a 50-number phone directory provides an easy way to keep track of important phone numbers.
The base unit has a data port which can be used to hook up external devices such as a fax machine. A speakerphone on both the base and handset combine with headset compatibility (also on both the base and handset) to provide hands-free communication options. Handset and ringer volume controls are provided, while an illuminated keypad makes dialing easy, even in dark environments. An intercom function lets you talk between handset locations, while up to seven-way conferencing allows you to communicate with multiple parties at the same time. The E2562 also comes backed with a one-year warranty.
What's in the Box
Base, corded handset, coiled handset cord, cordless handset, short and long telephone line cords, charging cradle, AC adapter, NiCd battery, belt clip, user's manuals, wallet card

Buy Now

Review of Panasonic KX-TG9391T DECT 6.0 2-Line Black Corded Cordless Phone System With 4 Handsets

I purchased the KX-TG9391 base unit, which comes with 1 handheld. In addition 5 more satellites KT-TGA939 were purchased, 6 satellites total. These were installed in a 6,000 square foot, 3 story building. The base unit was in the main office on the lowest floors and the satellites were placed in various rooms throughout the building on all three floors.

Prior to this purchase, my partner and I were using a Radio Shack similar system, but with the 5.8 GHz format. The Radio Shack system had all the features we needed, but there was about 20% of the building where the Radio Shack system had neither the range nor ability to cancel noise, so my partner and I were constantly walking to a better reception area so we could understand one another.

We heard the 6.0 GHz systems had at least twice the range of the 5.9 GHz, so we thought we would give it a try.

WHAT THIS PANASONIC SYSTEM DID RIGHT:
1. The superior range and noise canceling ability on this system allows for clear conversation all over the building. We no longer have to walk into better reception areas
2. The caller ID works well
3. On the base unit the phonebook holds 100 names and is easy to use. There is one button you push to go to phone book. You don't even have to lift the receiver. Just touch the letter key of the first letter of the person's name you want to talk to; say "G" for Gary. Scroll down the Gs to Gary. When you lift the handset, the system dials Gary.
4. You can program different ring tones for different people.
5. Customer Service is available and helpful. I felt sorry for them because there were so many issues with this phone system that they had to say over and over, "Sorry, what you are saying makes sense, but the system can't do that. We'll report it, and maybe the next model will be better."

WHERE THIS SYSTEM REALLY SCREWED UP:
1. There is an intercom where you can page any satellite from either the base unit or a satellite. BUT, while you can page all the satellites from the base unit by hitting "INTERCOM" and "0", you can NOT page all the satellites from a satellite; only one at a time. THIS IS SO ANNOYING! If you are on a satellite and don't know where the other person is, you have to try one satellite, then another, then another. Like the joke, "You will always reach your party on the last one you try." Usually it takes 3 to 4 tries. (The Radio Shack unit allowed you to page all at once; when your party picked up, it would tell you where they were.)
2. On the base unit you can put your phone book numbers in Groups where each Group has a different ring tone. So you program your 100 numbers into their appropriate Groups and the system lets you "Copy All" into the satellites; BUT when it copies them into the satellites, it copies ALL YOUR NAMES into the satellite's Group 1. Panasonic's customer service checked and said in order to have the phone book names in their respective groups on each satellite, I would have to copy each name into each satellite. Do the math, 100 names into 6 satellites, i.e., makes 600 entries you have to program!!!
3. We use 2 lines. Line 1 is incoming and the number we give for people to call us on. Line 2 is the toll free line where we make outbound calls. You can program the system to automatically select line 2 when you pick up the phone to call, BUT if you do, the system always selects Line 2 to answer. So when a call comes in on Line 1 and you pick up the phone, nothing happens. It just keeps ringing! Now that can be frustrating! If, on the other hand, you select "Auto Answer," it picks up whatever line is ringing, but it always defaults to calling out on Line 1, so we pay a toll. Again PANASONIC'S CS said they messed up because there is no way you can call out on Line 2 and have it answer from whichever line the incoming call is on.
4. One of their big selling features is that you can put your phone book names into 9 Groups and each group can have its own ring tone. Well, guess again, there are only 7 allowable ring tones!! You have to pick which 4 Groups to share 2 common ring tones.
5. Very NON-intuitive to program. I am an electrical engineer with phone experience, and it frustrated me.

SUMMARY:
They got the hard things right, like range and clarity, but they so screwed up those easy things that would make the system useful that I can only rate it a 2 star out of 5. BTW, the Radio Shack system, which cost only about half as much, was really well thought out and allowed you to easily do all the chores you need.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Panasonic KX-TG9391T DECT 6.0 2-Line Black Corded Cordless Phone System With 4 Handsets

Product Description:
* Panasonic DECT 6.0 2-line Corded/Cordless Phone KX-TG9391T. * New DECT 6.0 Technology. Considering purchasing more handsets and replacing other, older phones around the house. Forgot to mention the very neat "clicky" quality of the base sets buttons. Very enjoyable clicky-ness! Still sad about the missing clock and calendar on the screen but have learned to use the hold function without searching first.

5/9/09 UPDATE: The phone system is terrific! Excellent sound quality, easy to use, handset never a problem. Still wish screen had a digital clock and calendar.....

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Why must buying a new phone be as complicated as buying a new car? Can't we go back to the good old days of Ma Bell? When all phones were black and only made and received voice calls.

The search for a new, two line phone was about as painful and confusing as anything I have gone through (except a recent coffee grinder debacle Breville BCG450XLConical Burr Grinder).

From past experience, I identified two manufacturers that make phones worthy of owning: Panasonic and AT&T. Serious phones, built to last. The rest, V-Tech and Uniden are, in my opinion, at the "disposable" level. A lot of features for not very much money but after 2 years they are ready for the trash. I am also not interested in anything made by Siemens because after spending a fortune on one of their phone "systems" several years ago, the damn thing started to disintigrate about 5 minutes after the warranty expired.

I wanted a corded base phone because after several blackouts and 9/11, at least one corded phone per household is de rigeur. I wanted at least one cordless handset because thats the only way I can get a working phone in my livingroom. I needed an answering machine that would answer both lines. I wanted a speaker phone option for those dark times when you are on hold with tech support for 5 hours. I chose 5.8 GHz because the DECT 2 line phones don't seem to have their bugs worked out and who needs to be a pioneer/early adaptor for something that you absolutely positively need for work?

I chose the AT&T TL76108 5.8GHz TWO-LINE Digital phone AT&T 5.8 GHz TL76108 Digital Expandable 2-Line Corded/Cordless Phone w/ Caller ID and Answering System
because:
1) The price was relatively reasonable...$150 deliverd.
2) It included one cordless handset in the price. Panasonic makes you buy each handset for $89 in addition to the base station. Gee wiz!
3) It had more options/feature than I would probably use or probably be able to figure out when sometime in the future, it occurred to me to use them.
4) The base set can be wall mounted!
5) It was offered for sale by Amazon. This is extremely important in case you need to return the phone because it turns out to be a worthless piece of junk.

I received the phone a few days ago and I am pretty pleased with it.It is very easy to set up and the hand set registered immediately. The sound clarity is very good and there is an easily accessable volume control to make things louder or softer when necessary. The base phone is tilted up so that you can read the display screen easily. The buttons are big and clearly marked. The hand set is not as flimsy as some and the sound is clear and even, with very little, if any, static or interference.

Things I don't like are basically minor irritants.
-The hold button is a soft key feature that only appears on the screen when on a call. There is no actual "hold" button.

-The screen is only lighted when the receiver is lifted.

-The dark screen issue is not that much of a problem as it does not even display the date and time of day.....this has always been a nice feature of phones with LED screens. Especially if you have time/space/continuum issues. Was this an oversight? Is my screen malfunctioning? No. What the screen displays when the phone is "at rest" is "BASE". How helpful! I had no idea it was my base phone! I can go in and name it something else, like "Useless" or "My Office Phone" but why bother? I do know that if I use the intercom to reach one of the other cordless handsets, that handset will know that "Base" is calling. But really, why no time and date?

-The screen does not display the time elapsed while on a call. Also a nice feature.

-There is no way to program the use of the "1" into the phone's memory. You can set up your directory of #s with the "1" as part of the # but when a call comes in and you see it in caller id.....even if you have already entered it in your directory with the "1", when you hit the "RDL" soft key to return the call, there is no "1" inserted. This is very disappointing! AT&T's solution is to have you hit the "#" key after you hit "RDL" to get a list of possible # variations (with/without 1, area code, etc). This is not quite intuitive but I will probably get used to the drill or go mad in the process.

-There are three separate pairs of "Line 1", "Line 2" buttons on the base set (and no hold button, but I already mentioned that). There are the two "On/Off" buttons where you can, you know, turn the line on or off. There are two "Mailbox" buttons for listening to your messages. And there are the "Line 1" and "Line 2" buttons for actually answering the phone. Very confusing and yes, I have already pushed the mailbox button accidently when I thought I was making a call. Lord knows what my husband, who never reads the instruction book, is going to do when he tries to use the phone. Hah!

I do recommend the phone. There will be an update after I have had a chance to kick the tires a bit longer.

Click Here to see more reviews about: AT&T TL76108 5.8GHz TWO-LINE Digital Corded/Cordless Answering System (Titanium and Metallic Charcoal)

Product Description:
The AT&T TL76108 5.8 GHz Digital Corded/Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Answering System has many value-added features that make it an ideal choice for busy homes. By employing Digital Spread Spectrum Frequency Hopping technology on the 5.8 GHz spectrum, the TL76108 offers better sound quality, enhanced range, and increased security compared to phones that operate on a lower bandwidth, such as 2.4 GHz phones. The TL76108's cordless and corded handsets provide both flexibility and security, all from a single phone jack.
Both the base and the handset feature speaker phones and the system is expandable allowing use of up to eight handsets through a single phone jack. The phone also features 2-line operation. An intercom allows you to talk between handset and base, and you can transfer calls between them, as well as hold a conference with up to seven parties. The phonebook can hold up to 50 entries and the phone features lighted keypads and displays. Users can choose between 10 selectable ringer melodies, and the system has a battery backup for power failure operation. A 2.5mm jack on the handset allows for hands-free use when connected to a headset.
A built-in digital answering machine system records messages on microchips for reliable performance, instant access to messages, and the ability to selectively save and delete messages. The phone supports caller ID and call waiting, with a 50 name/number caller ID history and the option to set personalized ringers. The phone system is both table- and wall-mountable.

Buy NowGet 32% OFF

Review of Panasonic KXTG4000B 2.4 GHz DSS 4-Line Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Voicemail

I purchased this phone for my home office.I liked the ability to have access to all the lines (including my fax line) on one system. This system has excellent functionality based upon the attendant and call routing. It also has better range in our 4,500 sf house than the Siemens 2420 system, which only is only a two line phone (more later). This system has large programmable memory locations, intuitive interfaces on the extensions as well as the base station.
HOWEVER, the primary purpose for acquiring this phone was to use the base station as my primary office phone with the capability to roam throughout our three story house. As a base station, this system is severely lacking.Although the speaker phone is great, it has NO MUTE!If you participate in conference calls, you need a headset with a mute switch to have an offline discussion or even sneeze. Also, using two friends as guinea pigs, the sound quality was pitiful on two different units of this same model thinking it was a fluke. According to my unscientific testing, the sound quality of the cordless handsets was poor as well. Finally, the handsets are huge. While the antenna makes the range a little better, it is a large unit that makes me feel like I have a Motorola Brick phone next to my head.Ergonomics are not Panasonic's strong suit, but the lit keypad is nice for using in the dark (although I prefer doing other things than dialing someone while in the dark).
I tried these units in direct comparison to the Siemens 2420.I've never been a VTech fan and didn't even consider them. The Brother was too cumbersome so I excluded it too.So, based upon my personal, andtime consuming, experiences, I chose the Siemens because it had better sound and, of all things, a mute button for the base. The range of the Siemens compared to the Panasonic may not be great and I had to replace the NiMH with Li batteries, but taken as a whole I liked the Siemens better.
If Panasonic had put a mute button on the base of this system, I would have kept it in spite of the sound differences.Funny how one litte feature made my decision.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Panasonic KXTG4000B 2.4 GHz DSS 4-Line Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Voicemail

Product Description:
Give your small business or home the productivity-enhancing features of a business telephone system without the high price tag. The KX-TG4000B four-line cordless telephone system accommodates up to eight handsets, while the all-digital voice mail system with auto attendant can be occupied by up to four users simultaneously. And dual caller ID with call waiting lets you see who's calling on either line.
The KX-TG4000B base unit and each cordless handset communicate in both directions using 2.4 GHz frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) transmission. FHSS technology improves calling range and clarity, and eliminates crosstalk. Because it rapidly changes transmission frequencies within the 2.4 GHz bandwidth, this cordless system helps reduce the possibility of eavesdropping.
The KX-TG4000B operates via cordless transmissions, so no expensive (and messy) wiring or installation is required. Simply hook up the base to your phone lines and plug it into an AC outlet. Then, set up the included KX-TGA400B handset in the desired location and plug in the recharging stand. Up to seven more optional KX-TGA400B handsets can be added to the system.
The convenient, reliable, all-digital voice mail includes many advanced features. The KX-TG4000B offers a general delivery mailbox on the base unit, plus up to eight personal mailboxes--one for each handset. Each user can record a personal greeting, and can access individual mailboxes from any system handset or an outside line. You can set the voice mail system to automatically answer all incoming calls with a recorded greeting, and to route callers to a desired extension or mailbox. The KX-TG4000B allows for four separate voice paths, so four system users can access voice mail at once.
This phone system also includes a digital duplex speakerphone with an eight-step volume control. Digital circuitry in the base unit helps reduce echo and the dropout effect for more natural-sounding conversations.
Dual caller ID with call waiting lets you view the name and number of all incoming callers on either the base unit or handset LCD--even if you're already on the line. This caller ID feature also stores up to 50 names on the base unit (up to 30 names on each handset), with direct callback capability. And thanks to caller ID pager call, you can even program the phone to notify your pager when you've received an incoming call, and to forward caller ID data to your pager's display. So I have three issues, simplicity, multi line and range.

First let me explain why I wanted 4 lines. My kids are starting to use the phone.I have two telephone lines, the Tmobile @ home service, and just bought the XLink BTTN Cellular Bluetooth Gateway, which connects 3 cell phones via bluetooth to a multi-handset. Hence I now have 4 lines. The last two lines only cost $10 a month. The tmobile line is $10 and the bluetooth gateway is free.So why not have 4 lines versus waiting to pick up a line? I like the bluetooth gateway because now I do not miss calls to my cell when I am at the house. Now it goes to any of my 10 extensions.

Second, lets visit about range. My Smarthome guy suggested the best range phone for my house was the $600 Engenius phone. That was just too expensive a solution. I needed a multi line Dect phone that would work in my house. Last year I bought the Philips 2 line Dect Phone when it came out.It had the range, but the numbers and buttons are way too small for a 48 year old.It was serviceable.

This ATT phone is has a lot features and is pretty easy to use.The base is pricey but it is meant for a small office. It isexpandable to 10 wireless handsets. The base has big numbers and a corded handset. My one complaint is that the handset is corded.I think they designed it that way in case of loss of power. The base has a sophisticated auto attendant that Iturned off.For my wife I set up her line so that messages go to the general mailbox. For line 3, the tmobile line, the kids line, after 4 rings throughout the house, the answering machine picks up and the message that I left instructs callers to dial *3 for boy and *5 for girl. The message then goes to the boy or girl's handset. Each handset is an extension, and has individual voice mail.Pretty nifty.

The phone seems quite sturdy and well made. It has big numbers and button that I can read and the display is good. Intercom works great as well. The phone is easy to use.

A feature I really like about thisphone system is you can add AT&T TL7600 Wireless Headset. You connect this headsetthe same way you add a handset, which is really easy.It is about $80 but really a great accessory for a wife that likes to cook, and talk on the phone.(don't make the mistake I made and get the ATT 7610; it is too complicated to set up)It also has the same Dect range, so it is much better than bluetooth. In effect it is just another Dect handset. That is brilliant in my book.

Click Here to see more reviews about: 4 Line Corded/Cordless Small Business System with Extended Range

Product Description:
Highlighted Features: DECT Zero Blind Slot Digital Technology; 1 to 4 Line Capability; Extendable Range; Push-to-Talk Intercom-from base to handset from handset to handset; Fully Integrated Digital Answering System; 1 Additional Handset and Charger Included; Expandable System (use up to 10 handsets); Dial-in-Base Speakerphone; Handset Speakerphone(s), 10 Speed Dial and 10 Intercom Number Locations, 100 Name/Number Phonebook Directory, 3-Party Conferencing, 4 Lighted Line Indicators, Blue Lighted Keypad on Handset, Chain Dialing, Compatible with TL7600 Cordless Headset. They used to make a 2 line one, but no longer.
2) There is a headset jack on the base unit, which is very rare, and which is the reason I was willing to pay for this unit. And you can switch among headset, handest and speaker phone with no switching noise - very unusual.
3) Excellent sound, and it's perfectly quiet going from one line to another - no transition noise.
4) Unlike some, there is no cross-talk between the 2 lines. If you have one person on hold and are talking to another, the first party won't hear the other conversation.
5) Obvious quality build.
6) Battery backup good for a while.

Cons:
1) Cordless range only so-so for a high-end unit.
2) BIG CON: The number pads on the cordless units are somewhat delicate and after a couple of years start being a bit harder to press or stop responding at all. The authorized repair place I used said that this isn't uncommon with these phones. Repair (including shipping) was going to be enough that I just bought a new/extra cordless unit to use with it.

There are 2 new features, the ablility to MUTE a call and the ability to record a call. The lack of a MUTE button on the base unit of the previous generation was strange in a unit of this type.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Panasonic 5.8 Ghz 4-Line FHSS Expandable Cordless Phone System with Call Waiting Caller Id and Answering System (KX-TG4500B)

Product Description:
Give your small business the advanced features of a business telephone system. The Panasonic KX-TG4500 operates via cordless transmissions, so no expensive wiring or installation is required.Simply hook up the base unit to your phone lines and lug it into an AC outlet. Then set up the cordless hansets in the desired locaion. The system is expandable up to 8 handsets and can be added right away or over time as your needs grow.

Buy NowGet 25% OFF
